Molecular tests like Metrix® have multiple quality control steps built into the product to ensure proper test performance. Therefore, you may occasionally encounter error alerts that protect you from a false result, such as Invalid Result, Test Error, or Canceled Test. These issues are denoted by the Metrix Reader. Please refer to the instructions inside the product package for details.
While our clinical study has shown the total rate of such errors is less than a few percent, it is important to follow instructions carefully to minimize their occurrence. Follow the tutorial video for Metrix COVID-19 Test and Metrix COVID/Flu Test closely when you get started to maximize your success.
If you observe a higher error rate despite following the correct procedure, please contact us at support@aptitudemetrix.com or call us at 1 (888) 934-2253. We will offer assistance and free replacement tests.
Below, we provide more information on each type of error, their potential causes, and how to avoid them.
Invalid test
An invalid result does not necessarily mean that the test or reader is defective. An invalid result means that the test result cannot be verified because the internal control in the test failed. This is most commonly caused by low-quality samples.
*If you receive an Invalid Result, you must discard the test and use a new test kit. Do not rerun the same test.
Nasal Swab Samples
To ensure successful sample collection with nasal swabs, we recommend the following:
Blow your nose before collecting your sample. Too much mucus or other material from the nose can lead to an invalid result.
Make sure you insert the swab far enough into the nose, and rotate the swab firmly enough along the walls of the nostril, five times each.
Wait at least one hour after nasal spray before collecting your sample. The recent use of nasal products, such as nasal sprays or neti pots, can lead to an invalid result.
Saliva Samples
Only the Metrix COVID-19 Test is authorized for saliva samples.
Saliva varies from person-to-person and can be challenging to collect properly. Low quality samples (too much/little volume or excess debris/phlegm) can cause invalid results. We recommend using swab samples, for better consistency and higher sensitivity. If you cannot tolerate a nasal swab, please carefully follow our saliva collection tips to improve success.
Test Error
A Test Error means that an issue was detected that prevents the test from initiating properly. The most common reason for a Test Error is an incomplete test assembly. Always assemble your test on a hard, flat, clean surface, and make sure the cap, collector, and sensor are fully attached to each other during assembly.
If you receive a Test Error, you can immediately remove the sensor, press firmly down on the top of the cap until you are sure that all components are securely snapped together, and then reinsert the test back into the reader to continue the test. This should resolve the issue.
If the error persists, please discard the test and use a new kit.
Canceled Test
A Canceled Test means that the test was interrupted, or didn’t pass quality checks while running. The reader treats test interruptions or improper operating conditions as a Canceled Test to protect you from receiving incorrect results.
To help avoid receiving a Canceled Test, please follow the following tips:
Always wait until the reader indicates it is “ready” before inserting your test (the white center LED light will be solidly illuminated white).
Do not remove or reposition the test after insertion. Ensure that your power supply is sufficient and uninterrupted. Any interruption in power can cause a canceled test.
Run your test on a stable surface, away from movement and high-traffic areas where it can be moved, bumped, or unplugged during the test run.
If you receive a Canceled Test, please discard the test and use a new kit.
