Molecular tests such as Metrix are much more reliable than antigen tests. Nevertheless, there is still a small chance of yielding false results with molecular tests. Our Metrix COVID test has a 1% false positive rate, and a 3% false negative rate, which is among the best in the field (please note saliva sample has lower performance; use swab sample for the most accurate results).
The best way to confirm a result from Metrix is to perform additional molecular tests (either with Metrix or PCR) on the same day, within a few hours of the initial result. This is because the viral load can change over time. If the infection is very mild and the viral load is near the limit of detection of molecular tests, then the natural variation of viral load may cause different results. Please do not use rapid antigen tests to confirm a result from Metrix, as the sensitivity of antigen tests is much lower than molecular tests.
Because viral load fluctuates greatly over the course of an infection, we recommend discussing with your healthcare provider if you have doubts about your test result.
